Standard resistors, also known as THT (through-hole technology) resistors, are perhaps the most well-known type. THT resistors can be used for making circuits on both a breadboard and a fixed PCB (printed circuit board).

The percentage on the resistor indicates the tolerance. This shows how much the resistance value can vary. Standard tolerance is 5%, which is suitable for most purposes. 1% tolerance resistors are used when you need very high precision, for example, when making measurements.

The wattage rating on each resistor indicates how much power the resistor can handle without becoming too hot. Resistors rated for more than 1W are referred to as power resistors.
