Distance sensor Laser - Time of Flight - VL53L1/TOF400C - 400cm

Product information:

The VL53L1 (integrated in the TOF400C breakout board) is an advanced Time-of-Flight (ToF) distance sensor based on STMicroelectronics' VL53L1X chip. This sensor uses FlightSense™ technology with a 940 nm infrared laser (Class 1) and a SPAD detector array to achieve accurate absolute distance measurements up to 4 meters (400 cm), independent of color, texture, or lighting conditions.

Key Features:

- Measuring range: 4 cm to 400 cm (dead zone at 0–4 cm)
- Speed: up to 50Hz in short-range mode (±1m), and 30Hz for medium and long-range
- Field of view (FoV): approx. 27°
- Precision: ±20 – 25 mm in typical conditions
- Interface: Digital I²C (standard address 0x29 or 0x52), incl. XSHUT and INT pins for interrupt-driven applications
- Power supply: 3.0–5.5 V DC, with onboard regulator/level shifter
- Current consumption: approx. 40 mA during measurement
- Operating temperature: –20 °C to +70 °C

Breakout board dimensions: approximately 20 × 12 mm, with two M2 mounting holes.

Applications:

- Obstacle detection in robots and drones
- Object distance measurement in mobile systems
- Proximity sensing in household appliances
- Gesture recognition on related equipment

Additional features:
- Support for multi-zone metering (programs FoV to smaller region), 1D gesture recognition, and ambient light immunity.
