The 74AHCT125 level shift IC allows you to safely use 3V and 5V devices together. It is very suitable for converting 3V signals to 5V.
Simply connect 5V power to the 74AHCT125 and it will detect 3V signals and convert them to 5V. You can also use it to connect 5V signals to 3V inputs (then connect 3V as a power supply).

To use, apply the desired voltage to the VCC pin, ground to ground, and connect /OE (output enable) to ground. Data goes in on the A pins and comes out on the corresponding Y pins.
