The LM3914 turns 10 LEDs on or off depending on the level of an analog input signal.
The higher the signal, the more LEDs will light up. This gives you a kind of VU meter. You can have all LEDs light up in bar mode or one in dot mode.
The LM3914 can also easily be daisy chained together, allowing you to control even more LEDs.
The LM3914 is best suited for linear signals (e.g., as a voltmeter).
