The original Arduino motor shield is based on the L298. This is a dual full-bridge driver designed to drive relays, solenoids, DC and stepper motors.
You can control 2 DC motors with your Arduino board. You can control the speed and direction of each motor independently. You can also measure the power consumption of each motor.
