LED Ring NeoPixel - 16x WS2812 5050 RGB LEDs with drivers - Adafruit 1463
Product information:
Round and round and round they go!
16 Ultra bright smart LED NeoPixels in a circle with an external diameter of 44.55mm. These rings are 'daisy chain' - connect the output pin of one to the input pin of another. You only need 1 pin of a microcontroller to as many rings as you want to control. Each LED is addressable because the driver chip is in the LED itself. Each LED uses a constant current of ~18mA so that the color is always the same even with a changing supply voltage;. There are no external resistors needed making the design very thin. Put 5V (4-7V will work too) on it and you're done!
The protocol used for control is very timing specific and can therefore only be controlled by real-time microcontrollers such as an AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed, etc. It cannot be used on a Linux microcomputer or interpreted microcontrollers such as the Netduino or Basic Stamp.
The Adafruit NeoPixel library for Arduino supports these NeoPixel rings. Because it requires hand-tuned assembly, it only works on AVR cores, but others may have modified the chip driver code, so Google it. An 8MHz or faster processor is required.
Comes assembled and tested as a single ring with 16 individually addressable RGB LEDs.
