LED Stick NeoPixel - 8x WS2812 5050 RGB LEDs with drivers - Adafruit 1426

Product information:

Make your own small LED strip circuit with this stick with NeoPixel LEDs. There are 8 small smart 5050 (5mm x 5mm) smart RGB LEDs on a PCB with mounting holes and a daisy chain design.

You only need 1 pin of a microcontroller to drive as many rings as you want. Each LED is addressable because the driver chip is in the LED itself. Each LED uses a constant current of ~18mA so the color is always the same even when the supply voltage changes. No external resistors are needed so the design is very thin. Apply 5V (4-7V also works) and you are done!

The LEDs can be 'daisy-chained' by connecting the output of one stick to the input of another.
The protocol used for control is very timing-specific and can therefore only be controlled by real-time microcontrollers such as an AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed, etc. It cannot be used on a Linux microcomputer or interpreted microcontrollers such as the Netduino or Basic Stamp.
The Adafruit NeoPixel library for Arduino supports these NeoPixel sticks. Because it requires hand-tuned assembly it will only work on AVR cores, but others may have modified the chip driver code so Google it. An 8MHz or faster processor is required.

Comes assembled and tested as a single stick with 8 individually addressable RGB LEDs.
