Servo/PWM Shield 16 channel 12-bit - Adafruit 1411
Product information:
You want to make a cool Arduino robot, maybe a hexpod walker or maybe a piece of art with lots of moving parts. Or maybe you want to control a lot of LEDs with precise PWM output. Then you find out that your Arduino doesn't have enough PWM outputs, or that they conflict with another shield! What now? You could give up OR you could get this handy PWM and servo driver shield. This shield works with all Arduinos that support shields.
The chip on this shield is perfect for this. By using only two I2C pins you can drive 16 independent PWM outputs. You can even stack 62 shields on top of each other to drive up to 992 PWM outputs. Because I2C is a shared bus you can also connect other I2C devices and sensors to the SCL/SDA pins as long as their addresses do not conflict (this shield has address 0x40).
- The shield has an I2C controlled PWM driver with a built-in clock. This means that unlike the TLC5940 family, you don't need a microcontroller to drive it all the time. It runs completely independently.
- It is suitable for 5V, you can also control it from a 3.3V Arduino.
- I2C address can be set using 6 pins.
- Adjustable PWM frequency up to approximately 1.6kHz.
- 12-bit resolution for each output - for servos, that means 4µs resolution at 60Hz update rate.
- Configurable push-pull or open-drain output
This shield features:
- Terminal blocks for power input or you can use the breakout on the side.
- Protection against incorrect connection to the terminal blocks.
- Green and red power-good LEDs
- 3 pin connectors in groups of 4 so you can connect 16 servos in one.
- Stackable design.
- Space for a large capacitor on the V+ line (if you need it).
- 220 Ohm resistors on all outputs to protect them and to make driving LEDs easy.
Comes as a set of loose parts that any beginner can assemble in 15 minutes. Right?
Supplied without motors or servos.
Dimensions (without headers or terminal block):
- 54mm x 70mm x 3mm
This board/chip uses I2C 7-bit addresses between 0x60 and 0x80, selectable with jumpers.
