The boards from WeMos are development boards based on an ESP microcontroller from Espressif. The boards are compact and therefore easy to integrate. There are also various 'shields' available to expand the board. They can be programmed via a USB connection, including with the Arduino IDE.

With this shield you can not only add more shields in height but also in width. This way you can place a sensor next to the WeMos D1 mini instead of on top of it.

WeMos D1 mini charger / battery shield
With this shield you can easily run your WeMos D1 mini on a battery. On the shield, which you press on the WeMos, you connect a 3.7V LiPo battery that can then be charged via the USB connection. During charging, the shield does not have to be removed.
